The NATO of the future needs a responsible and strong ally like Georgia for the challenges it is facing, Irakli Beraia, the Chairman of the Committee on Defence and Security of the Parliament of Georgia, said on Wednesday.

Beraia said at a time when the rules-based international order was "at stake", there was an “urgent need” to expand the alliance, including by having Georgia join its ranks.

At a time when the rules-based international order is at stake, when Russia is waging one of the most brutal wars in the history of mankind against our strategic partner state [Ukraine], there is an urgent need to expand the alliance, including [by adding] Georgia into it. The NATO of the future needs a responsible and strong ally like Georgia,” the Parliament official said.

Beraia stressed that Euro-Atlantic integration was a "choice based on the values" of Georgian citizens, and a "top priority" for  the country's  security and foreign policy.

Georgia has all the practical tools to join the alliance and, as our NATO friends say, is doing much more with these tools than any other partner,” he concluded.
