Three individuals have been detained for the unlawful misappropriation of property, announces the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia.

An investigation and search party determined that in September 2020 members of the organised criminal group used forged power of attorney documents to seize a land plot which had already been registered in the name of a Canadian citizen.

The accused individuals unlawfully seized 1001 sq.m of land plot near the Lisi Lake, worth more than 300,000 GEL.

As a result of the Tbilisi Land Use Master Plan introduced in 2018, areas surrounding the Lisi Lake are gradually turning into one of the most sought-after districts in the city.

An investigation is underway to reveal further details of the crime.

Fraudulent misappropriation of land is punishable by 7-10 years of imprisonment under the Criminal Code of Georgia.
