Two individuals, including a former public servant, have been arrested on the charge of appropriation of state property worth ₾828,960 ($297,000) and negligence, the Investigation Service of the Georgian Finance Ministry said on Tuesday.
The Service said its investigation had found a suspect had fraudulently registered two land plots with an area of 15,360 square metres in Georgia’s eastern Mtskheta-Mtianeti region using forged documents and with the help of a former public servant in the same municipality.
The Service added procedures were also being carried out to “return the illegally acquired land plots to state ownership”, while the suspects face between six and nine years of imprisonment.
