Finance ministry investigation service arrests one for fraud in Tbilisi

The investigation service of the ministry of finance of Georgia arrested one individual on Tuesday for fraudulent flat sale enterprise, the state body announced.

The ministry said the offender, a head of several companies, had posted fraudulent advertisements for sale of prospective flats in the capital, before showing interested buyers areas supposedly designated for construction of the residential blocks that would house the spaces.

Fake contracts, certified by notary, had been drawn up by the offender to provide legitimate appearance to their activity, the body also noted, adding the offender had been arrested while attempting to appropriate $30,000 from one of the victims of their fraudulent activity.

The crime is punishable by up to nine years in prison.
