Police arrested 13 members of an organised crime group for "fraudulent activities" in Tbilisi, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said on Saturday.

The group members had trapped tourists into paying “unrealistically large amounts of money” for services by using “deception, threats, physical and psychological pressure,” the MIA explained.

Three of the arrested individuals are reportedly citizens of Armenia, while the remaining ten are Georgian nationals.

MIA is investigating the detained persons for fraud “committed by an organised group” and causing “substantial damage”, punishable by seven to 10 years in prison.
