The Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office on Thursday said it had arrested an individual who had defrauded citizens of ₾295,650 ($114,000) and $135,000 by misrepresenting themselves as an official of the prosecutorial body and promising real estate deals below market prices.

The body said the offender had fraudulently misrepresented themselves as an employee of the Office and a “person close to the Prosecutor General” to their targets.

The offender also presented their family members as owners of real estate developer companies to boost the credibility of the scheme, and promised flats and commercial space in capital Tbilisi and the Black Sea city of Batumi.

Arrested following a court order and charged on six cases, the offender is facing six to nine years in prison.
