A smartphone application attesting to an individual’s Covid-19 vaccination status in Georgia will soon be released, and will be necessary to enter a number of indoor and outdoor public places starting December 1.

The application will show records of vaccination, testing and recovery from Covid-19.

Those who do not use smartphones will be able to receive a Covid-19 pass at public service halls.

Public places which will be obligated to ask visitors to show proof of vaccination via the app or pass include:

  • Food facilities: cafes, restaurants, bars (both open and closed spaces)
  • Cinemas
  • Theatres
  • Opera house
  • Museums
  • Concert halls
  • Entertainment centres
  • Casinos, the gambling business facilities
  • Spa centres
  • Gyms
  • Hotels
  • Mountain resorts

The application will be connected to two databases of  Georgia's National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), head of the NCDC Amiran Gamkrelidze reported.

The application will receive information from these databases...Accordingly, it will also receive information about vaccination status,” Gamkrelidze said.

Gamkrelidze also noted that for rural residents Covid passes won’t be effective, saying that ‘I doubt the rural population would go to restaurants and entertainment centres.’

The NCDC proposed a Covid-19 green pass package to the coordination council on October 26 and it was approved by the government earlier today.

Due to the low daily vaccination rate in Georgia, the government announced a 200 GEL bonus (about $63.29 / €54.71) for pensioners who get vaccinated before January 1, 2022.
