Head of NCDC: ‘new Delta Plus variant has not yet been confirmed in Georgia’

“New Delta Plus variant of Coronavirus has not been confirmed in Georgia so far”, Head of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze said today.
Gamkrelidze noted that the epidemic situation has deteriorated globally, a result of the new Delta Plus variant – AY.4.2.
The new Delta Plus variant has been confirmed in Russia, the United Kingdom and in a number of countries. It has not yet been confirmed in Georgia”, said Gamkrelidze.
The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the Delta variant is highly contagious and more resistant to treatment than the original variant.
Georgia has reported 4,762 new cases of coronavirus, 3,953 recoveries and 43 deaths in the past 24 hours.
The country has had 698,944 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020.
639,564 of the 698,944 patients have recovered, while 9,831 have died from the virus.

Ninety-nine per cent of individuals who have died from Covid-19 in Georgia were not vaccinated, Head of Georgia's National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze said. “This is a life-and-death battle with an invisible enemy. COVID-19 ‘green passports’ will contain information on the vaccination status of an individual, PCR test results, and confirmation of recovery from COVID-19, if such exists.

“The government of Georgia has no plans to impose further coronavirus restrictions”, said Health Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze. Tikaradze denied rumours of traffic restrictions, noting that if someone is spreading disinformation, they are ‘trying to mislead the public’.
Georgia has reported 6,024 new cases of coronavirus, 3,818 recoveries and 49 deaths in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate has gone up to 9.13% in the past 14 days as of November 3.
