Leader of the opposition Strategy Aghmashenebeli party Giorgi Vashadze has presented a new political platform, Third Force, which unites members of several other opposition political parties ahead of the October 2 municipal elections.
Among the members of the Third Force are Republican Party leader Khatuna Samnidze, former head of the United National Movement (UNM) opposition party Grigol Vashadze, head of the Free Democrats party Tamar Kekenadze and former member of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Georgia Rezo Kemularia.
Opposition party Strategy Aghmashenebeli, which received four of 60 opposition seats in the parliamentary elections 2020, will participate in the upcoming elections on behalf of the Third Force.
Grigol Vashadze, who left the UNM chairmanship in December 2020 due to the opposition party’s verbal attacks on the diplomatic corps, criticised both the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party and the UNM, noting that ‘one political team is stuck in the past and the other cannot learn from the mistakes of the past.’
The Third Force is a platform through which we were able to unite many professionals throughout Georgia,” Grigol Vahsadze stated.
However, GD party members claim that public trust in Giorgi Vashadze and Grigol Vashadze is ‘very low’ as they both ‘come from the UNM.’
