PM Garibashvili: 'Gov't intends to assist in the generation of $1 billion from wine exports in next 10 years'

The Government of Georgia intends to assist in the generation of $1 billion from wine exports in the next 10 years, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has announced at a meeting with winemakers held at Chateau Zegaani, in Kakheti region today.
Garibashvili reviewed the current situation in the sector at a meeting with winemakers, along with projects planned and implemented for the development of the industry.
He said that the government will subsidise the grape harvest in 2021 to help about 25,000 wine growers and producers avoid the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Garibashvili said that since the Georgian Dream came to power the borders have reopened and Georgian wine has been exported to Europe, China and a number of other consumer markets and as a result, the winemaking sector has experienced 'great progress'.
Since 2012, annual harvest has been increased from 52,000 tonnes to 300,000 tonnes and new vineyards have been planted on 6,400 hectares of land, announces the government of Georgia.
As of today 300 wine companies export wine abroad.
Julie Peterson, Managing Partner of US marketing company Marq Energie Consulting, has met Georgian wine producers in the United States to introduce them to the characteristics of the US market and help them create strategies for exporting wine to the US.
A Georgian wine tasting event has been held in the historical settlement of Srebrna Gora near the city of Krakow, Poland. Contractor company of the Georgian National Wine Agency in Poland, Malinova, organised the event, which was held as part of an active marketing campaign in Poland, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.
Influential French winemaker Loic Pasquet, founder of the company Liber Pater and producer of the world’s most expensive wine is interested in launching his first project in Georgia together with the founder of local wine company Askaneli, Gocha Chkhaidze, which aims to bring Georgian wine to the most expensive segment of the EU market.
Georgia exported 28.3 million bottles of wine to 55 countries in January-April 2021, which is an increase of 15% compared to the same period of 2020, says the Georgian National Wine Agency. By selling wine abroad Georgia generated $65 million. Revenues increased by 7% year-on-year.
Georgian Prime Minister and Chairman of the government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze have announced five new tourism projects in Shuakhevi municipality, Adjara, with a total investment value of about 30 million GEL. Garibashvili said that implementing tourism projects of this type is 'vital for reviving the economy and attracting more tourists'.
In order to increase the export, sale, competitiveness and awareness of Georgian wine abroad the government of Georgia has decided to co-finance marketing campaigns of wine companies in export markets except for CIS countries.
Georgia exported 65 million bottles of wine to 59 countries in January-August 2021, which is an increase of 19% compared to the same period of 2020, says the Georgian National Wine Agency. By selling wine abroad Georgia generated $145 million. Revenues increased by 13% year-on-year. Meanwhile, Georgia exported 22 million bottles of Georgian brandy (+21%) and 570,000 bottles of chacha (+115%) abroad in the first eight months of 2021.
In total 164,000 tonnes of grapes have been processed in the Georgian wine region of Kakheti as of September 22, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency. Out of the processed grapes, about 96,000 tonnes were of the Rkatsiteli variety, 60,000 tonnes were Saperavi, 3,300 tonnes were Kakhuri Mtsvane and the remaining were different grape varieties.
The Georgian Co-Investment Fund, backed by former Georgian prime minister billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, has denied its connections with the Black Sea Poti Free Industrial Zone and stated that offshore registered companies which are managed by the Co-Investment Fund ‘do not own property and / or assets in the Poti Free Industrial Zone and / or any other company, either directly or indirectly'.
Georgia exported 72.5 million bottles of wine to 60 countries in January-September 2021, which is an increase of 12% compared to the same period of 2020, says the Georgian National Wine Agency. By selling wine abroad Georgia generated $168 million. Revenues increased by 11% year-on-year.
Georgia exported about 107 million bottles of wine to 62 countries in 2021, marking a record high over the last nine years, the government revealed on Monday.
The Georgian Government will subsidise the 2022 grape harvest due to the "record-high grape yield", Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced at today's Government meeting.
