One detained for attacking TV Pirveli cameramen, one for assaulting citizen at Tbilisi Pride counter rally on July 5

Police have detained one more individual for attacking TV Pirveli cameraman Lekso Lashkarava, who was beaten severely at the July 5 Tbilisi pride counter rally and later passed away on July 11, and one for physically assaulting a citizen on Rustaveli Avenue the same day.

The investigation found that V.B. physically and verbally abused the cameraman of TV Pirveli while performing his professional duties at the intersection of Revaz Tabukashvili and Giorgi Chanturia streets on Rustaveli Avenue, Tbilisi, while on the same day, D.K. physically assaulted a citizen on Rustaveli Avenue near Kashueti Church”, report police.

In total 23 people have been detained for criminal actions during the counter rally of Tbilisi Pride, namely:

  • 19 individuals have been detained for unlawful interference with journalists’ professional activities
  • Three individuals have been detained for raiding the office of Tbilisi Pride
  • One was arrested by police for violence against a citizen

Police continue to identify and arrest others involved in the violence on July 5-6.
