A fire has broken out in the Vashlovani Protected Area in Georgia’s south-eastern Dedoplistskaro municipality a few hours ago today.
Radio Liberty/Radio Free Europe reports that difficult terrain has made it difficult for the firefighters to access the location of the fire.
Lightning hit trees and caused a fire in the protected area. Currently we [firefighters and employees of the protected area] are walking to the scene. The terrain is quite difficult and fire trucks could not get close to the fire”, said Vazha Cherkezishvili, the Head of the Ranger Service at the Vashlovani Protected Areas.
Currently it is unknown how many hectares are on fire.
The Emergency Management Service says firefighters have been deployed on the spot.
