Georgian government officials and members of parliament will be vaccinated against the coronavirus this week, while the tourism and hospitality sector, public transport drivers and ticket controllers will be prioritized for vaccination in the coming future, Chief of the Operational Staff of the Interagency Coordination Council Giorgi Gibradze announced at a briefing today.
The tourism industry will be a priority group in the vaccination process, because it is very important to restore this field in the country. Supporting the field on an international platform is very important to let the whole world know that Georgia’s tourism industry is safe”, said Economy Minister Natia Turnava.
Turnava said that vaccination against Covid-19 will not be mandatory.
Georgia has received the Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines so far.
The country is expecting one million doses of Pfizer vaccines in the summer.
Georgian health officials have warned of a potential third wave of coronavirus in the country if individuals refuse to receive the vaccine and act in line with recommendations.

Georgia received 100,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, which is an inactivated vaccine, earlier in April. The vaccine has around a 78% efficacy rate and is likely to be approved by the World Health Organisation by the end of this week. Gamkrelidze stated that ‘it is symbolic I was the first who received the vaccine in Georgia,’ adding that that the vaccine has already been used in 45 foreign states.
Georgia has reported 2,171 new cases of coronavirus, 1,074 recoveries and 24 deaths in the past 24 hours. 27,648 tests have been conducted around the country on the weekend. 19,912 of the 27,648 tests were rapid tests, while the remaining 11,736 were PCR tests. The country has had 315,913 cases of coronavirus since February 26, 2020. 5.33 per cent of tested individuals had Covid-19 in the past 14 days.
Georgian Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia has stated that Georgia is in communication with Johnson & Johnson and Novavax to receive vaccines in summer.
