Large-scale Covid vaccination sites will be set up in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Kutaisi and Batumi, where up to 2,000 people will be vaccinated against Covid-19 per day, Head of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Amiran Gamkrelidze announced earlier today.
As of now, a total of 150 brigades are working across the country in the vaccination process.
The Health Ministry and the NCDC plan to increase the number of vaccination brigades up to 300 by the end of May.
Georgia received an additional 43,200 doses of the British AstraZeneca vaccine on May 6.
The country has already received the first doses of Pfizer, Sinopharm and Sinovac coronavirus vaccines.
Vaccination with Sinovac has not started so far.
The country is expecting one million doses of Pfizer vaccines in the summer.
The Chinese government will gift Georgia 100,000 doses of Sinovac vaccine in April, head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control Amiran Gamkrelidze stated earlier today. Georgia received 100,000 doses of Chinese Sinopharm vaccine last week and the country has plans to purchase the Chinese Sinovac vaccine in April, Gamkrelidze said. He stated that both vaccines are likely to be approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in mid-April and Georgia will launch vaccination only after.
Vaccination with Pfizer will be allowed in four clinics of Tbilisi: Republican Hospital, Bokeria clinic, Caucasus Medical Centre and Amtel hospital, in two clinics of Kutaisi and in Batumi Republican Hospital in the Adjara region. Individuals receiving either the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccines against Covid-19 will have to stay at clinics for 45 minutes, instead of 30 minutes to be observed if there are any adverse effects.
Georgian government officials and members of parliament will be vaccinated against the coronavirus this week, while the tourism and hospitality sector, public transport drivers and ticket controllers will be prioritized for vaccination in the coming future, Chief of the Operational Staff of the Interagency Coordination Council Giorgi Gibradze announced at a briefing today.
