Hotels in Georgia giving space for quarantine for free

Brand hotels in Georgia have given space to the government free of charge in recent days to place Georgian citizens under quarantine in order to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus - COVID-19.
As of now 4,250 individuals have been placed under quarantine in 64 hotels throughout the country.
Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava said that most of the hotels have been allocated to the government free of charge. She thanked the owners of brand hotels and said that such unity and social responsibility of business is vitally important.

As you know, the Ministry of Economy with the help of Georgia’s National Tourism Administration (GNTA) has set up quarantine spaces in hotels throughout the country. The need for such spaces is increasing day by day… Support from the hotels is extremely important in such conditions. A well-secured quarantine space means protecting each of us. I’m sure that with the joint effort we will be able to cope with this challenge”, said Turnava.

In recent days the Sheraton Grand Hotel, Holiday Inn, Moxy Tbilisi, Ibis Hotels and Dreamland Oasis Chakvi have set up rooms free of charge for recently arrived Georgian citizens who will have to be placed under quarantine for 14 days.

Since February 26, 2020 Georgia has had 81 confirmed cases of the virus. Two were foreign citizens who left Georgia earlier this month via a charter flight.
As of now there are 66 patients in the country infected with the virus, including several minors.
The health condition of all minors is stable.
Health officials say that the condition of only four of 66 patients is critical.
Drones from the Emergency Management Service are being used by agencies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia to monitor the Marneuli quarantined zone in country's east.
Georgia has created additional quarantine facilities in the Samegrelo - Zemo Svaneti region to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus. The new quarantine facilities have been erected in the coastal town of Anaklia and the highland town of Mestia, said Governor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Alexandre Motserelia.
Georgia’s Minister of Health, Ekaterine Tikaradze has stated today that all citizens entering the country will be placed under mandatory quarantine starting from today to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. New quarantine zones will be arranged at the Sarpi, Larsi and Red Bridje customs checkpoints.
Georgia’s National Tourism Administration (GNTA) will create quarantine zones for Georgian citizens returning to the country from abroad amid the outbreak of the new coronavirus – COVID-19, said GNTA head Mariam Kvrivishvili today.
Two more individuals have recovered from the new coronavirus in Georgia out of the 90 confirmed cases in the country, increasing the number of recovered individuals to sixteen.
Seven people have been transferred from the Russian-occupied Abkhazia region of Georgia onto Tbilisi-controlled territory after they came into contact with a woman who was also recently transferred from Abkhazia to Zugdidi in western Georgia and tested positive for the new coronavirus.
The number of cases of coronavirus has reached 188 in Georgia as of the morning of April 6.36 of the 188 have recovered, while two elderly women, with several underlying health issues have died.148 people inside the country remain infected with the virus (two of the 188 were foreign citizens who left Georgia last month). 5,056 are under quarantine and 386 others are in hospitals.
A total of 32.5 million GEL was spent on quarantine spaces in Georgia from the state budget, reads the report of the measures taken by the government of Georgia against COVID-19. As of May 22 quarantine spaces included 84 hotels with over 6,500 rooms which served 19,002 people in quarantine.
Georgian citizens arriving home with a negative PCR test result will no longer be required to be placed under mandatory quarantine from October 21.
Georgia has reported 1,351 new cases of coronavirus, 337 recoveries and 14 deaths in the past 24 hours. The majority of the new infections were recorded in the capital Tbilisi, Adjara and Imereti regions. Starting today, Georgian citizens returning from foreign states with negative PCR tests will be sent into self-isolation instead of quarantine. The majority of the 12,033 Covid-19 patients in Georgia are undergoing treatment either in hotels or at home as they have a mild form of the virus.
