Japan gifts sakura saplings to Georgian Universities

The Embassy of Japan to Georgia has gifted Japanese cherry (Sakura) saplings to different Georgian universities today. Georgian Minister of Education Mikheil Chkhenkeli, rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), George Shervashidze and Japanese Ambassador to Georgia, Tadaharu Uehara have planted some of the saplings in the inner yard of the 1st building of TSU.

The Embassy of Japan also gifted over 100 saplings of Sakura to Tbilisi last week. Most of them were planted in the National Botanical Garden of Georgia and some in the yards of various universities.

Traditional Japanese garden was opened with the financial support of Japanese Government in the National Botanical Garden of Georgia in October 2016.

The garden covers 250 square meters. There are some renowned Japanese artworks: Torii Gate, Golden Gate, Tasoutou style stone tower (sculpture for happiness and good fortune) and traditional Japanese Golden Bridge.
