Japan finances 4 new projects worth $500k in Georgian regions

The government of Japan is financing the implementation of four new projects worth half a million US dollars in Georgia, announces the Embassy of Japan in Georgia.

The projects will be developed in various regions of Georgia.
The four projects are:
- Purchase of ambulances in Telavi, Ambrolauri, Zugdidi and Ozurgeti municipalities of Georgia - $290,500
- Purchase of a garbage truck in Shuakhevi municipality of Georgia - $68,500
- Construction of a kindergarten in the village of Zanavi in Adigeni municipality of Georgia - $72,607
- Purchase of a mobile library for high settlements in Adjara region of Georgia - $72,000
In total, Georgia received $503,607 to implement all four projects.
The Embassy of Japan to Georgia has gifted Japanese cherry (Sakura) saplings to different Georgian universities today. Georgian Minister of Education Mikheil Chkhenkeli, rector of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), George Shervashidze and Japanese Ambassador to Georgia, Tadaharu Uehara have planted some of the saplings in the inner yard of the 1st building of TSU.
Japanese capital city of Tokyo will host project of ‘Georgia – Homeland of Wine’ from 10 March to 7 May, announces the National Wine Agency of Georgia.
Georgian Agriculture Minister Levan Davitashvili and President of Japanese alcoholic drinks consultation company ASIA AC Wataru Iwamoto met yesterday to discuss the prospect of exporting more Georgian wine to the Japanese market. Wataru Iwamoto stated that Georgian wine is in high demand on the Japanese market after the ‘Georgia – Homeland of Wine’ exhibition was held.
Georgia is ready to start negotiations with Japan on a free trade agreement, Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze announced at a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Japan Taro Kono yesterday.
Bakhtadze says the agreement would help Georgia, which already has free trade deals with the EU, EFTA and China, to better integrate into the global economy.
The United States Government is providing $1.1 million assistance to Georgia in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. A leading Japanese newspaper Nikkei published a list of top popular products of 2020, naming Georgian traditional dish Shkmeruli as No. 2 on the list. Meanwhile, Matsubara Foods company is planning to sell instant meal packets of Shkmeruli on the local market starting June 30.
The Japanese government has purchased a mobile library worth $72,000 and gifted it to the people living in Georgia’s mountainous Adjara region yesterday to boost access to books and education for the local population.
About 400 projects worth ₾37 million ($14mln) have been implemented in the western Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti regions of Georgia in 2022, the Ministry of Infrastructure announced on Wednesday.
