Japan welcomes Georgia's efforts and response to the Russia-Ukraine war, Imamura Akira, the Japanese Ambassador to Georgia, said on Wednesday at a Tbilisi ceremony dedicated to the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Japanese diplomat spoke at a sakura tree planting occasion that marked the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties since Georgia’s restoration of its independence from the Soviet Union.
Georgia and Japan are making joint efforts to help Ukraine and isolate Russia in response to the latter’s military aggression in the neighbouring countries, the Ambassador said, adding Georgia and Japan had “challenges ahead” with their respective occupied territories.
Akira noted the significance of the two countries working together to legally restore jurisdiction on the said territories.
The Ambassador planted sakura trees in the yard of the National Palace of Students and Youth in Tbilisi as a “symbol of friendship" between Japan and Georgia, in presence of the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili and MPs, the press office of Parliament said.
He also addressed the audience with comments about the bilateral cooperation between Japan and Georgia.
