State Audit Office to inspect security service for first time

The Georgian parliament has approved Grigol Liluashvili as the new head of the Georgian State Security Service (SSS), replacing Vakhtang Gomelauri in the role.

Grigol Liluashvili, who has been nominated the new head of Georgia’s State Security Service (SSS), says that the main challenge for Georgia is the occupation of Georgian territories by Russia.Liluashvili, who is addressing parliament’s Defence and Security Committee, told MPs that Russia’s illegal activities at the occupation lines aim to “make influence not only on Georgia but also on the international community.”

The Georgian State Security Service has denied illegal “borderisation” in the village of Kobi in Khashuri Municipality near occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region. However, it said, Russian occupation forces continue provocative activities along the villages of Chorchana and Tsagveli.

Head of Georgia’s State Security Service Vakhtang Gomelauri has reported to parliament today, stating that the number of supporters and the influence of the terrorist Islamic State has “significantly” decreased in Georgia.

Russia’s activities and its occupation of Georgian territories remain major threats to state security, the 2019 report of the Georgian State Security Service reads.

The State Audit Office of Georgia reported yesterday that the state pension information management system (IMS), managed by the Healthcare Ministry’s Social Service Agency is ‘outdated’ and ‘fails to integrate’ with other systems of the agency.

The Georgian Parliament has chosen international auditor company PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to conduct an audit of the State Audit Office’s 2020-2021 report.

A total of 800 state license plate identification cameras purchased by the Roads Department of Georgia for 2.5 million GEL in 2018 are still in storage, says the State Audit Office in its overview of financial reports of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia.
