The Central Election Commission has published an announcement where it responds to opposition’s rally held yesterday in front of the CEC building, calling it the pressure on the Election Administration, noting readiness to discuss any topic related to the elections peacefully with the involvement of various parties.

This is an unacceptable form of pressure and influence on the Election Administration, which has been going on for several days towards the Election Administration, including in the district election commissions,” says CEC.

The Central Election Commission notes that the processes of the 2020 parliamentary elections are not over and only the preliminary results are known.

At this stage, various legal processes are underway both in the district election commissions and in the general courts. Some of the summaries have been clarified, while results have been recalculated in some of the districts and the official results are yet unknown.

Unfortunately, the obstruction of the ongoing legal process by specific political parties is obvious, which clearly raises questions and is a deliberate discrediting of the name of an independent institution and does not fit into the legal forms that are important in terms of trust in the process,” says the CEC.

The announcement reads that the CEC is an independent institution and functions to serve the people.

The election administration primarily serves the people, and for years this institution has been represented by people whose merit is the international recognition that makes this administration stand out in the region,” says the announcement.

The election administration urges all the interested parties to support the electoral rights of Georgian citizens.

The CEC urges international partners and local non-governmental organisations to facilitate dialogue, which is important for civil consent in the country, reads the statement of the institution.
