Georgia has exported 7,007 tonnes of hazelnuts between August 1 and October 18, which is a 50 per cent increase compared to the same period of 2019, announces Georgian Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection.
The exports generated more than $37.6 million in revenue, marking a $13.9 million increase compared to the same period of 2019.
The ministry says that Georgian hazelnuts were exported to these EU countries:
- Germany (2,145 tonnes)
- Italy (1,307 tonnes)
- Czechia (404 tonnes)
- Poland (254 tonnes)
- Bulgaria (220 tonnes)
- Lithuania (182 tonnes)
- France (169 tonnes)
- Spain (165 tonnes)
- Greece (97 tonnes)
- Estonia (66 tonnes)
- Latvia (62 tonnes)
- Austria (22 tonnes)
- Slovakia (15 tonnes)
- Croatia (10 tonnes)
Also, the export of Georgian hazelnuts was made to these countries as well:
- Russia (376 tonnes)
- Armenia (356 tonnes)
- Belarus (175 tonnes)
- Ukraine (148 tonnes)
- Algeria (148 tonnes)
- Brazil (136 tonnes)
- Canada (89 tonnes)
- Mexico (53 tonnes)
- Saudi Arabia (60 tonnes)
- Iraq (24 tonnes)
- UK (22 tonnes)
- US (19 tonnes)
About 50,000 tonnes of high quality hazelnuts are expected to be harvested in Georgia this year.
