Georgia reports 14 new cases of coronavirus, 44 patients recovered

As of today there are 194 COVID-19 patients in Georgia.

Georgia has reported 14 new cases of the coronavirus earlier today. Forty-four COVID-19 patients have recovered over the past 24 hours. 

Most of the patients who have recovered are Georgian soldiers who tested positive for the coronavirus while serving in the NATO Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan last month and were transported home for treatment. 

Two of the 14 new patients are from the Gachiani settlement of Gardabani municipality, nine individuals had contact with infected people, while the remaining three new cases are imported (two are truck drivers).

Director of Tbilisi Hospital of Infectious Diseases says that the nine patients who contracted the virus through contact with infected individuals may have links with Mestia municipality in western Georgia which was put on lockdown yesterday. 

518 tourists who were in Mestia municipality have already been placed in quarantine. 

343 of the 518 individuals are in hotels in Mestia which will be used as quarantine zones, while the remaining 171 are in hotels in the coastal Adjara region.

Since February 26, 2020 Georgia has had 1,264 cases of the coronavirus. 

1,054 of the 1,264 patients have recovered, while 17 others have died. 

In total, there are 194 COVID-19 patients in the country (one tested positive for the coronavirus abroad and was transported in Georgia for treatment) as of August 11. 

7,279 people are in quarantine in Georgia.
