The tangerines harvest season has just ended in Georgia and 31 thousand tonnes of tangerines out of 50 thousand tonnes have already been exported from the country in September-January of 2019-2020, announces the Ministry of Agriculture.

This year Georgia exported five percent more tangerines than in the same period of 2018.

Mostly, tangerines were exported to:

  • Russia – 20 tonnes
  • Ukraine – 5.2 tonnes
  • Armenia – 4.4 tonnes
  • Belarus – 319 tonnes
  • Kazakhstan – 140 tonnes
  • Kyrgyzstan – 58 tonnes

Six countries have been added to the export destinations in 2020:

  • Slovenia
  • Moldova
  • Lithuania
  • Poland
  • Qatar
  • Singapore

This year the wholesale price of tangerines varied from 0.6 GEL ($0.20) to 2 GEL ($0.69).

The Ministry of Agriculture says that the high quality of the tangerines was driven by the list of measures implemented by the state against stink bug.

A coordination centre serving farmers and factories facilitates the distribution of state subsidiaries to farmers producing tangerines.

The centre will work until February 1, 2020.
