Georgia’s external trade turnover amounted to $4.20 billion in January-May 2020, which is a decrease of 16.8 per cent compared to the same period of last year, show preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
The value of exports decreased 16.2 per cent and reached $1.23 billion, while imports also decreased 17 per cent, amounting to $2.97 billion.
The trade deficit of Georgia in January-May 2020 amounted to $1.73 billion which is 41.3 per cent of total trade turnover.
In January-May 2020 the top trading partners of Georgia were:
- Turkey ($560.6 million)
- Russia ($494.0 million)
- China ($443.2 million)
Georgia’s top exported commodities in January-May 2020 were:
- Copper ores and concentrates - $258.1 million ( 20.9% total exports)
- Motor cars - $148.9 million (12% of total exports)
- Ferroalloys - $109.2 million (8.8% of total exports)
The top import commodities in January-February 2020 were:
- Motor cars - $222.8 million (7.5% of total imports)
- Copper ores and concentrates - $199.1 million (6.7% of total imports)
- Petroleum and petroleum oils - $195.6 million (6.6% of total imports)
