Georgia is opening its airspace to international flights starting July 1 and the international airports of the country are making preparations to receive tourists and to ensure their services will be in line with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health of Georgia.
Disinfectant machines for hands have already been set up as well as thermal cameras to scan travellers arriving at the airports to detect whether they have a high temperature.
In addition, special marks have been set up to ensure social distancing near terminals and special barriers have been constructed at registration counters to avoid direct contact between passengers and employees.
Head of Georgian United Airports Tamar Archuadze said that the passengers do not have the symptoms typical for Covid-19, they will be able to travel.
At the same time, as she noted, at this stage it will be possible to take on board hand luggage, but passengers are asked to have as compact a bag as possible to avoid delays on boarding.
She said that currently negotiations are underway with so called 'green countries' in order to set up flights between these countries without requiring any additional documents. Otherwise, it might be mandatory tourists entering Georgia to prove they have tested negative for coronavirus in the past 72 hours.
What requirements must passengers abide by at the airports?
- Passengers will be obliged to wear face masks at the airport and on airplanes and observe 1.5 meters social distancing
- Passengers’ temperature will be checked by thermal screening to be allowed to check in, and their temperature will be checked after arriving at the destination airport where they must also observe social distancing
Georgian international airports are making preparations to receive international visitors starting July 1, and to ensure their services will be in line with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health to ensure the safety of all travellers.

Georgia is negotiating with Czechia, Latvia and other countries to resume direct flights, announces the Ministry of Economy of Georgia. Georgia has reported just one new case of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 810. 683 of the 810 patients have recovered, while 13 others have died. As of today 114 people remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia. Starting today, intercity transport, currency exchange booths and all types of restaurants which have received permission from the Georgian Health Ministry have resumed work.
The Georgian Civil Aviation Agency has published recommendations for airports, airline companies and passengers about how to carry out flights during the coronavirus pandemic.
Georgia has reported six new cases of the coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 818. 686 of the 818 patients have recovered, while 13 others have died. As of today 119 individuals remain infected with COVID-19 in Georgia. The source of infection has been identified in all new cases. Director of Tbilisi Hospital of Infectious Diseases Marina Ezugbaia says that the new patients are from Marneuli and Bolnisi municipalities and from the quarantine zone.
