4 more coronavirus infections in Russian-occupied Tskhinvali, total cases increase to 15

Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region has confirmed four new cases of coronavirus earlier today, bringing the total number of cases to 15.

Res media outlet reports that 37 more individuals are waiting for coronavirus test results in Tskhinvali region.

There are 244 individuals in quarantine, out of which 160 are students of Russian universities, six drivers and 78 citizens of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), who entered the region from North Ossetia – Alania”, Marina Kochieva, Tskhinvali Infectious Disease Hospital doctor told Res agency today.

Responding to the issue, Georgian Reconciliation Minister Ketevan Tsikhelashvili reaffirmed that Georgia is ready to support its citizens living in the occupied Tskhinvali region.

The only international organization with which we are able to cooperate and protect the interests of our population is the Red Cross. The employees from the organization are now working to provide some humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable individuals in Akhalgori district and the rest of Tskhinvali region”, said Tsikhelashvili.

Tsikhelashvili also noted that the residents of the region are completely isolated, and the existing humanitarian crisis in Akhalgori is getting worse.

The de-facto Government of Tskhinvali closed  the so-called “border” with the rest of  Georgia and over  60 countries in early March to contain the spread of coronavirus.
