Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Garibashvili has received the Olgethrope Award for his exceptional military service during his visit to the United States and marked 25 years of successful cooperation with Georgia National Guard (GeorgiaGuard) through the National Guard State Partnership Program.
The James Edward Olgethrope Award is given to civic leaders, locals and state officials, who in a position of great responsibility distinguished themselves with outstanding and exceptional service to Georgia National Guard military services, the National Guard or the National Guard Association of Georgia, reads the official page of the National Guard Association of Georgia.
Irakli Garibashvili has been honored for his commitment to a long-lasting strategic partnership to the United States. As stated at the award ceremony, Garibashvili, as the Interior Minister and then the Prime Minister, always found ways to strengthen relations between Georgia and the US.

The awarding ceremony has been held at the centre of Atlanta National Army. Adjutant General Thomas Carden attended the ceremony, who stressed the importance of cooperation of countries.
Irakli Garibashvili talked about the importance of Georgia-US strong strategic partnership, adding that both countries share democratic values. Georgia tries to transform the military field and strive for NATO integration. The US is a staunch supporter of Georgia.
Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Garibashvili is visiting the US to hold meetings at the Pentagon and sign a Georgia-US security agreement.
“The agreement will be signed at the US Department of Defence,” the press office said.
Garibashvili will meet with top figures of the US naval forces during the visit.
