The German Federal President Frank Walter Steinmeier will pay an official visit to Georgia later today. Steinmeier will travel to Georgia with his wife Elke Budenbender in the afternoon, his office reported.
Tomorrow, Steinmeier will meet with President Salome Zurabishvili, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze and Orthodox Patriarch Ilia II.
During his visit Steinmeier will hold discussions with Georgian intellectuals on current developments in Georgia and Europe, as well as travel to the eastern region of Kakheti together with President Zurabishvili.
Steinmeier will also meet with the German representatives from the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) and visit the occupation line dividing the country with its Russian occupied region of Tskhinvali (South Ossetia).
The German Federal President and his wife will return to Berlin on October 8.
Steinmeier first visited Georgia in 2016, when he served as the German Foreign Minister.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has met with her German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who has paid his first visit to Georgia in the role, arriving in Tbilisi with his wife late yesterday.
