German Foreign Minister Steinmeier visits Georgia today

Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier is coming to Georgia today for a two-day visit in capital Tbilisi.

Steinmeier will attend the opening ceremony of the annual Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA), which is taking place in Tbilisi from July 1-5. 

While in Tbilisi Steinmeier is scheduled to participate in various OSCE PA events and meet Georgia’s top officials before departing later in the evening on July 1. 

The annual Parliamentary Assembly session of the OSCE PA was titled 25 Years of Parliamentary Cooperation: Building Trust Through Dialogue and Expo Georgia Tbilisi was selected as a venue for the large-scaled occasion. Hundreds of international officials are expected to attend. 

Steinmeier is accompanied to Tbilisi by a German delegation involving economic and cultural experts. Together the group will attend official meetings with Georgia’s President, Prime and Foreign Minister.

Tomorrow Steinmeier will attend a special round table meeting with local economic experts and Georgia’s Minister of Economy Dimitry Kumsishvili. At this meeting Georgian Railway and German Deutsche Bahn are expected to sign a memorandum to increase bilateral cooperation. 

Also on Friday Georgian representatives from the cultural sector will host a presentation for Steinmeier and the German delegation about the cultural projects being jointly implemented through joint partnerships between Georgia and Germany.
