The Georgian delegation departed for Baku, Azerbaijan today to participate in the 2019 European Youth Summer Olympic Festival on 21-27 July.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, Education, Science, Culture and Sports Minister Mikheil Batiashvili and President of Olympic Committee Leri Khabelovi saw off the athletes and wished them success.
Prime Minister Bakhtadze said the year of 2018 was most successful in the Georgian sports history.
He also stated that the young generation and sport are one of the top priorities of the Georgian government.
Our athletes showed unique results recently in Minsk where they occupied the fifth place. We have also observed a historic decision according to which Georgia will host EuroBasket 2021… I believe you will do your best in Baku. Georgia is proud of you,” Bakhtadze addressed the Georgian delegation.
The 36 Georgian athletes swore in prior to the departure.
A total of 3,600 athletes aged 14 to 18 from 49 countries will compete during the 15th Summer European Youth Olympic Festival.
