How are Georgian towns celebrating Independence Day?

Georgian Independence Day is being celebrated all around the country with a variety of events as today is the 100th anniversary since the creation of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia.

All major cities of Georgia are holding festive and educative events today.

Kutaisi

Local authorities and citizens of Georgia’s third largest city of Kutaisi have laid a wreath at the monument of the national hero Merab Kostava as today is his birthday.

Georgia’s Ministry of Economy planned for today to revive the epoch of Tsisperkantselebi – a creative union of a group of Georgian symbolist poets and prose writers, which dominated Georgian literature in the 1920s.

Musical and theatrical performances will take place throughout the day in Kutaisi, during which exhibition areas, open cinema and different-themed corners will be arranged.

Batumi

Georgia’s Black Sea resort town of Batumi started celebration of Independence Day with an exhibition of military equipment on the coastline of Black Sea.

New recruits also took their oath of allegiance to the state in Batumi.

Poti

Different cultural, sport and entertaining events are taking place in the port city of Poti, where military equipment is being exhibited on the central square of the city.

Citizens of Poti who joined in on the celebrations in the city centre are able to take virtual tours of Georgia’s protected areas with special glasses.

Gori

Energy companies in Georgia are showcasing their developments in Gori.

Large-scale installations and maquette on energy themes are represented in the centre of Gori.

At the end of the day gala concerts will be held in the Georgian towns of Telavi, Poti, Ozurgeti, Zugdidi, Kutaisi, Gori, Akhaltsikhe, Batumi, Senaki, Ambrolauri and Sachkhere.
