Tbilisi traffic to be restricted for Independence Day festivities

Traffic in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi will be restricted to facilitate preparations for the annual Independence Day celebrations on Friday, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Monday.

The Ministry said traffic would be prohibited on Freedom Square, the adjacent Rustaveli Avenue and First Republic Square starting at midnight on Tuesday. 

Drivers will be diverted to Baratashvili and Tabukashvili streets towards Kostava and Sanapiro streets, while Asatiani Street will carry traffic between Mtatsminda and Gorgasali Square.

Traffic through Apkhazi Street will be redirected via Vertskhli Street and in the direction of Baratashvili Street, while drivers heading to Mtatsminda will be diverted to Melikishvili Street via  Janashia, Tarkhnishvili and Chovelidze streets, and onto Chonkadze Street.

Traffic from Chavchavadze Avenue will move through Melikishvili and Kostava streets, and further to the Mtkvari River bank.
