Summer tourist season opens in mountainous Svaneti

The summer tourist season has kicked off in Georgia’s highland region Svaneti and in its central town of Mestia.

From June 10 foreign and local tourists are invited to spend their holidays to the region which has much to offer starting from nature and wildlife tours ending with cultural tours.

At the summer season opening event on June 10 Mestia hosted a competition which was named after Boris Kakhiani: a famous Svan sportsman who contributed to the development not only of sport but Mestia itself.

The competition was held for the first time this year but from now on it will become an annual competition.

After the competition the events continued in the very cetnre of Mestia where Svaneti’s touristic resources and products where showcased.

There was one corner dedicated to Svan cuisine where famous Svan meals were represented on the table decorated in a traditional way.

Also, old and new photos of Svaneti were exhibited.
