Are you keen to join a public sporting event in the midst of eastern Georgia's beautiful vineyards and support a global charity cause at the same time?

If this sounds like something you’re interested in, sign up now for the 2016 Wings for Life World Run and join thousands of others in Georgia for the annual charity run around the lush Kakheti surroundings in Lopota Gorge.

This year on May 8 amateur and professional runners in Georgia will line up and run alongside tens of thousands of others in races held simultaneously in 34 countries to raise awareness and funds for research into finding a cure for spinal cord injuries.

The Wings for Life World Run will begin simultaneously all over the world and involve runners and wheelchair competitors. The World Run race is the largest charity event in world sport history. Georgia has cemented its place as a regular participant country after being involved for the past two years.

Instead of a traditional static finish line, competitors must run for as long as they can along a designated route until they’re passed by an advancing ‘catcher car’, at this point their race is over.

The final contestant to be passed by the ‘catcher car’ will be crowned the winner.

In addition to the run itself, a special Wings for Life World Run village will be set up at the Kakheti race start-line, where live concerts, food and beverage and a big screen will entertain visitors and screen a "global broadcast of the race”, said organisers.

The run will begin at 3pm local time at the turning point to Lopota Lake on the Telavi-Kvareli Highway.

Registration for the Georgia event is now open and will remain open until May 4. The run is limited to 5,000 participants who must pay a 30 GEL entry fee. All money raised from entry fees will be donated to researching for a cure of spinal cord injuries.
