Thousands of Georgians and tourists flocked to Georgia’s Kakheti region to take part in the Wings for Life World Run – a one-off event which took place simultaneously around the world.
Georgian runner Giorgi Shekrelidze won the local event with a total distance of 35.46 km.
As for female participants, Nino Mikadze won the competition with a total distance of 29.23 km.
Both champions will choose themselves in which country to take the field for the 2018 year’s Wings for Life world run. This is the main prize for the winners, said Georgia’s Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.

The World Run is an annual international charity event that sees people line up and race as far as they can before being caught by the ‘catcher car’ to raise money for research into finding a cure for spinal cord injuries.
Georgia has cemented itself as a regular participant country after being involved for the three past years, with this year being its fourth edition.
