Kutaisi International Airport will soon become the first airport in the region to have a low-cost airline based there.

A spokesperson from Kutaisi International Airport told Agenda.ge Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air will open its 24th base at Kutaisi International Airport later this year.

The spokesperson said opening a Wizz Air base at Georgia’s second largest airport would increase passengers flow into and out of the country. The base will also contribute to new flight directions.

This will be Wizz Air’s first base in the Caucasus region.

The United Airports of Georgia and Wizz Air have already reached an agreement where the Hungarian airline will always have one airplane at Kutaisi International Airport.

On February 19, Wizz Air director general Joseph Varadi will visit Kutaisi and present detailed information about the new base and future operations of the airline.

Wizz Air started flying to Kutaisi International Airport in 2012.
