Kutaisi International Airport is the first airport in the Caucasus region to have a low-cost airline based there.
Today Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air festively opened its 25th base at Kutaisi International Airport. This was the airline’s first base in the country and the region.
In parallel, Wizz Air also launched a Georgian version of its website.
To celebrate the opening of our base in Kutaisi and the launching of the Georgian version of our website we are giving you 20 percent off all flights to and from Georgia booked today, 23 September,” wrote Wizz Air on its official Facebook page.
About $89 million USD was spent on opening Wizz Air’s Kutaisi base, which created 36 jobs for locals.
Opening the airline base at Georgia’s second largest airport was expected to increase passengers flow into and out of the country, as the airline offered several new flight destinations.
Having more European flights coming into and out of Georgia would make the air market more competitive and make air travel cheaper for Georgian travellers.
From Georgia, Wizz Air flies to seven European cities.
Wizz Air tickets first went on sale in February for flights from Kutaisi to:
From Kutaisi to these seven destinations, passengers can expect to pay about €40.
Meanwhile Wizz Air started flying to Kutaisi International Airport in 2012. Since then more than 600,000 passengers have flown with Wizz Air. Last year alone Wizz Air carried more than 125,000 passengers from Georgia.
