An award-winning film by Georgian filmmaker Nino Shaburishvili is one of 400 works set to screen at a British film festival celebrating independent short cinema.

The Aesthetica Short Film Festival launched today in the city of York. Over the coming days the event will feature a record number of films of varying genres at 18 venues in the city.

Among the productions to feature at the festival is the debut film Guest by Georgian director Nino Shaburishvili.

Screening in the Drama section of the film festival, Shaburishvili's film will compete for multiple awards including Festival Winner and Best in Category.

In addition, the short production will be eligible to be nominated for an award from the prestigious British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) after it screens at the Aesthetica festival.

The selection of Shaburishvili's film to compete in the Aesthetica Short Film Festival was noted by Georgia's Ambassador to the UK Tamar Beruchashvili earlier this year:

The production will screen at the Yorkshire Museum and will be one of several hundred films presented at this year's Aesthetica festival.

Shaburishvili's work tells the tale of 10 year-old boy Andro who spends his summer days selling boiled corn to holiday-goers on Georgia's Black Sea coast. After a French family visiting his village invites the young boy for dinner, Andro is impressed with his interaction with the guests.

Earlier in the year the film screened at the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival in France, and also won the Prize of International Animation Film Festival TOFUZI at the Batumi International Arthouse Film Festival.
