If you are in Tbilisi, you can catch nearly a dozen of the most acclaimed short films by Georgian directors and meet prominent filmmaker Mikheil Kobakhidze at a screening event this Saturday.

Award-winning shorts by directors including Mariam Khatchvani, Tornike Bziava and Nino Shaburishvili will be screened to the audience at the Artarea Gallery venue at 10 Dodo Abashidze Street.

Titled Short Circuit, the event will be hosted by Artarea multimedia project of culture and arts and Short Film Festival Short Circuit.

See the teaser for filmmaker Tornike Bziava's short 'The April Chill' below:

The screening will feature 11 contemporary short works and animations and invite director Mikheil Kobakhidze to attend as a special guest.

Two of Kobakhidze’s own films — his 1967 work Umbrella and 1962 production Carousel — will be part of the program to celebrate the directorial work of the filmmaker banned by Soviet cinema censors.

Born in Tbilisi, Kobakhidze graduated from the Moscow State Institute of Cinematography in 1965 and worked on film projects as director, screenwriter and composer in the 1960s.

Barred from directing in the USSR, Kobakhidze was celebrated in Europe, with the 1996 Venice Film Festival hosting a retrospective of his films. He resumed working on filmmaking in the 2000s.
