Five tourists have been saved by Georgian rescuers at one of the country’s most famous ski resorts, Gudauri.
Today Georgia’s Mountain Resorts Development Company announced a group of five adventure enthusiasts - one Ukrainian, one Polish and three Georgians - decided to walk about 33km from Kazbegi to Gudauri.
However due to the bad weather conditions, poor visibility and snowfall, they were unable to complete their walk and were stranded.
The tourists called 112 – the country’s emergency response centre and asked for help.
Rescuers from Gudauri found the tourists on the 99km section of the Jvari Pass which is about five kilometres from Gudauri.
The Jvari Pass is a high mountain track at an elevation of 2,379m (7,815ft) and is located on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range in the Stepantsminda district.
The tourists were in a good condition when found and were transported to Gudauri.
