Russian tourist saved in mountain rescue

An injured Russian tourist is recovering in hospital after she was rescued from a mountain in Kazbegi.

Georgian rescuers were called to the woman’s aid after she broke her leg while descending Mount Mkinvartsveri today.

The 112 emergency service said employees of the Sixth Unit of Rescue Training and Response Base of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Emergency Management Department were immediately deployed to locate the woman and offer her first aid.

One she was located and treated, rescuers transported her to a local medical clinic by horseback, as the area was extremely remote with no vehicle access.

The woman was then transferred to the regional hospital. Emergency services said she was currently in a comfortable state.
