Georgian rescuers have carried an injured German tourist 10km on a stretcher after falling and injuring himself while climbing Mount Ushba in western Georgia’s Svaneti region.
The tourist feel down a crevasse in the mountain and injured himself. He was part of a larger climbing group of German adventurers who also became lost while hiking on the mountain.
The climbing group phoned the local 112 emergency service as the injured tourist could not continue walking due to severe leg pain.
Georgian rescuers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Border Police found the climbing group and escorted them back to Becho village and then later transported to Mestia.
The injured tourist was traken to Mestia regional hospital for treatment and recovery.
Mount Ushba, measuring 4,710m high, is one of the most notable peaks of the Caucasus mountain range. Due to its steep profile and unstable weather, Ushba is considered by many climbers as the most difficult ascent in the Caucasus.
