Georgia’s Zaza Nadiradze to compete in 200m canoe final

A Georgian canoer has blitzed his semi-final heat in the men’s 200m canoe race at the Rio Olympics this evening, cementing himself a place in tomorrow’s final.

Just after 6pm tonight Zaza Nadiradze lined up in the third semi-final heat of the Men’s Canoe Singe 200m sprint.

He started strong and raced hard, and won his heat with a time of 40.146 seconds.

Tomorrow afternoon Nadiradze will race in the final against competitors from Azerbaijan, Russia, France, the Czech Republic, China, Spain and Brazil.

The race will begin at 4.25pm (Georgia time).

This was the first time Georgia, since becoming an independent country, had an athlete participate in the canoe sprint discipline at the Olympic Games.
