Canoeist Zaza Nadiradze scores World Cup silver

Georgian athlete Zaza Nadiradze capped his successful appearance at the Canoe Sprint World Cup in southern Hungary’s city of Szeged by claiming a silver medal at the event on Sunday.

Nadiradze, a 2016 Rio Olympic Games finalist, finished second in the Men’s 200-metre sprint discipline at the World Cup Stage Two competition.

Arriving just behind Lithuania’s Henrikas Zustautas, the Georgian posted a time of 0m38s323, only 0m0s315 slower than the winner’s result.

Russia’s Ivan Shtyl was third with 38s415 to complete the podium of the tournament that ran from May 25-28.

Nadiradze reached the final stage after qualifying along with eight other canoeists from seven countries.

The tournament also hosted Men’s and Women’s disciplines in 200, 500 and 1000m, with athletes from 37 nations showcasing their skills.

The World Cup was organised by the International Canoe Federation, which also hosts competitions in kayaking.
