Georgia hosts country’s largest whitewater kayaking race

Georgia is a new global destination for whitewater kayaking.

This weekend the country made history by hosting its first-ever whitewater extreme kayak race on Bzhuzha River in western Georgia’s Guria region.

About 70 contestants from 11 countries participated in the event. The countries involved included Ukraine, Latvia, Poland, Slovenia, Estonia, France, Belgia, the United Kingdom, Norway and Russia.

The men’s race winner was a Russian sportsman, while Ukraine was triumphant in the women’s competition.

Georgia’s sport authorities said the country had a huge development potential for tourism and outdoor activities, which was why similar events were important.
