Georgia’s Minister of Healthcare David Sergeenko had a fruitful meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Aleksandre Kvitashvili yesterday, who was formerly a Georgian Health Minister.

The meeting was a precursor to today’s ‘International Support for Ukraine’ conference, organised by Ukraine and attended by representatives of several nations. The event will discuss current and future projects implemented by Ukraine’s partner countries that aimed to support the troubled nation.

Meanwhile at yesterday’s meeting, Georgia’s Sergeenko and Ukraine’s Kvitashvili spoke about the prospects of deepening bilateral cooperation. The Ukrainian side thanked Georgia for its humanitarian assistance after the bloody hostilities in Ukraine’s troubled eastern region.

In response, Sergeenko stressed Georgia was able to provide Ukraine with additional medicine and further medical equipment if needed, following on from its earlier aid.

"The main reason of the visit is to attend the April 28 conference, which aims to summerise the support plans and projects [for Ukraine],” said Sergeenko.

"Similarly to before, we expressed our readiness to provide humanitarian assistance and continue bringing children and wounded people to Georgia for rehabilitation,” he said.

Ukraine’s Kvitashvili stated Georgia had the ability to assist Ukraine in "many ways”, including in terms of assisting Ukraine carry out reforms and with humanitarian issues.

"We also noted that Georgia can help Ukraine in treating children, by sending them to [Georgian] resorts during summer and by vaccinating them,” Kvitashvili said.
