Georgia is modernising its emergency services to better meet the needs of people with disabilities.

Georgia’s emergency hotline 112 has launched a new SMS and video call service for people with speech and hearing impairments.

The new 24/7 service will be available across the country from March 27.

Users will need to fill in special registration forms on www.112.ge, after this process they will have access to the new service for free. This service will enable people with speech and hearing impairments to send an SMS or video call to the hot line in cases of emergency.

All video calls will be directed to 112 operators who know sign language in emergency medical and fire services and patrol police.

The project was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Swedish government.
