Crime rate drops in Georgia, statistics reveal

The number of crimes committed in Georgia is decreasing.

Today the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) released crime statistics for the country for the period January-July 2015, which showed fewer crimes were committed in the first seven months of this year than in the same period of 2014.

Between January and July 2015, all investigative agencies in Georgia registered 20,438 crimes. Of this, 11,506 cases (56.3 percent) were solved, stated the MIA.

Year-on-year, the number of crimes committed in the first seven months of 2015 was 4.3 percent lower than in the same time of 2014.

The MIA also published monthly crime statistics for June and July 2015.

In June 3,302 crimes were recorded and 1,378 cases (41.7 percent) were solved. To compare, the number of crimes committed in June 2015 was 3.6 percent lower than in June 2014.

Meanwhile the data showed 2,111 crimes were recorded last month, of which 1,199 cases (56.8 percent) were solved. The number of crimes committed in July 2015 was 8.1 percent less than in July 2014.

The released statistics were comprised of information provided by the MIA and other investigative agencies throughout the country, including the General Prosecutor’s Office, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Corrections.
