Crime rate drops in Georgia, latest figures reveal

The crime rate in Georgia is continuing to drop, latest figures from Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reveal.

Today the Ministry published crime statistics June 2015 as well as the overall crime rate from January to June 2015.

Data compiled by all investigative agencies in the country revealed 17,434 crimes were reported from January to June, out of which 9,772 cases (or 56.05 percent of crimes) were solved.

Year-on-year there was 4.93 percent less crimes committed in the first six months of 2015 compared to the same time of 2014.

Monthly statistics showed in June 2015 there were 3,089 crimes recorded last month. Of this 1,386 cases (or 44.87 percent of cases) were solved, the figures noted.

In comparison to June 2014, the number of crimes reported in June this year had dropped by 0.87 percent.

The data was provided by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Prosecutor’s Office, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance.

Meanwhile separate data about June 2015, based solely on figures from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, revealed there was a 0.7 percent increase of crimes year-on-year (y/y).

The Ministry noted the enlarged number was mainly due to an increase of registered cases of domestic violence (+87.23 percent) and gun-related crimes (+171.43 percent).
