Georgian Greco-Roman wrestler Iakob Kajaia reaches finals at Tokyo Olympics

Georgian Greco-Roman heavyweight wrestler Iakob Kajaia has reached the finals at Tokyo Olympics by defeating Chile’s Acosta Fernandez in the semifinals.

Kajaia defeated Russian Sergei Semenov in the quarterfinals, and before that he beat Finnish Elias Kuosmanen.

In the finals Georgian Kajaia will wrestle against 38 years old Cuban Lopen Nunez who has won the Olympic gold medal three times in his career. 

Cuban Nunez defeated Turkish Riza Kayaalp, a four-time world champion, in the semifinals.

The final match between Georgian Kajaia and Cuban Nunez in Greco-Roman wrestling will be held on August 2.

The Georgian delegation at the Tokyo Olympics has won five medals so far. 

Georgian judoka Lasha Bekauri won the title of Olympic Champion in the 90 kg weight category. Judo wrestlers Vazha Margvelashvili, Lasha Shavdatuashvili and Guram Tushishvili won silver medals. 

Georgian weightlifter Anton Pliesnoi claimed a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics yesterday.
